So Saturday was a great day! Saturdays are usually pretty sweet! I'm a big fan of Saturdays. This particular day consisted of some sweet stuff (bike riding, buying records, getting drunk) which was nice, but the highlight of the day was The Triggers reunion show that took place at Work/Sound. Work/Sound is an art gallery / music venue. I am almost positive that this venue breaks quite a few laws on a consistent basis, which I am all for. I walk into this venue and 90% of the crowd has a beer in their hand, which is a positive thing to see at a concert, believe me, alcohol + live music > no alcohol + live music
So back to the subject of Work/Sound breaking laws, so 90 % of the audience has a beer in hand, and here's the catch, about 50% of the crowd was under 21 years old. This scenario made this concert quite swell. Lets rewind here for a second though. Before arriving at Work/Sound I first had to bike to Work/Sound. This ended up being a tough task. Long story short, I could not find Work/Sound (it is definitely not located at 8th and Ankeny!) so I ended up asking about 15 folks on the streets of SE Portland where Work/Sound is located, no one knew, so I then made the trek to "The East End" (Probably the hippest bar in portland, you should see some of the haircuts that walk out of this bar). I asked some guy outside smoking a cigarette where Work/Sound was located, he didn't know but he called a friend who did. He ended up talking to his friend for like 5 minutes which was interesting because I was just standing outside listening to this guys phone conversation, the conversation was mainly about some relationship issue. While I was on this scavenger hunt trying to locate Work/Sound I ended up missing one of my favorite bands, "The Red Dons," that was a bit of a downer, but nothing a little alcohol could not cure (seriously, what can alcohol not cure? a speech impediment? Cancer? those are all I can think of, see alcohol cures almost everything!).
So I finally found Work/Sound and it was a party, 40's, pounders of Olympia, High Life, Pabst, all the classy beers were out tonight in full force. I then watched a band perform, I forgot the name, but the band was good. I then got in line for the bathroom and started talking to this girl, Mira. Mira is a punk rocker, Mira plays bass in a thrash metal band, I'm going to see her band play tomorrow night at some punk house. Punk rockers are cool to hang out with.
Next, The Triggers set up and start playing and the crowd went wild. Folks kept climbing up this pole and jumping into the crowd, 30 people or so were dancing around in the pit for the whole set. There were more girls than usual at this show which was cool and the girls were dancing up a storm as well. Great show.
